In one of the many gardening conversations I've had with co-workers, we were having a discussion regarding some of the different plants we've tried over the years. I commented on something I had put in my "Pink" garden. "You have themed gardens?" "Just the one," was my reply. The brain immediately stared counting my actual number (rose, wildflower, blue, ....). I have a pink garden for a very good reason....I live in a house full of males. It is my one girly concession.
It's not a very big flower bed. It's on the east side of our house, between the brick sidewalk and the house. Since we live on a corner, everybody that drives by sees this flower bed. So I wanted it to be different than my other beds. Over the years, that side of the house has gone from a shade garden with hostas, bleeding hearts and coral bells, to having full sun in morning and shade in the afternoon. It has always had a little bit of pink in it.
In 20ll, I went full pink with it. Clematis, weigela, delphiniums, hydrangea, sedum, etc.
It looked pretty sparse for awhile. My husband said it needed more plants. I kept saying patience. It's not perfect yet (no garden is!). But last summer showed it's getting closer to my vision. Except for the weeds.
Ah...only 58 days until Spring. Where did I put those catalogs!
